Burning of health center by West Papua separatists in Kiwirok Papua, fate of two health workers become victims

The Chief of Operations for the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, stated that West Papua separatists have edited and distributed a video to provoke the public. The circulating footage aims to stir public anger against security forces.

“The video has been edited beforehand. The original footage documents the 2021 fire at the Health Center in Kiwirok District, Pegunungan Bintang Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, which was caused by the West Papua separatists,” Faizal said in Jayapura, Papua Province, on January 26, 2025.

Faizal explained that the separatists attempted to distort the facts. “They burned down the Kiwirok District Health Center, but they edited the video and falsely claimed that the fire resulted from bombs dropped by Indonesian military and police forces,” he said.

According to Faizal, intelligence reports revealed that the separatists brought foreign nationals to create a fabricated documentary. They then spread the video on social media.

The hoax video accused Indonesian security forces of bombing and causing fires in multiple buildings. Faizal noted that the separatists also attempted to build a narrative that their group was resisting the government using only traditional weapons.

However, the reality on the ground tells a different story. Faizal emphasized that the separatists used firearms to attack security personnel and civilians. They were also involved in other criminal acts, including rape, arson of public facilities, and violent assaults.

In 2021, West Papua separatists reportedly raped a healthcare worker stationed in Kiwirok, an act that violated human rights. Their propaganda aimed to create division and erode public trust in the government.

Faizal urged the public to be more discerning when consuming information and to avoid being misled by false narratives. “The Indonesian military and police remain committed to maintaining security and peace in West Papua and will take firm action against the provocations by West Papua separatists,” he stated.
