The implementation of the 2024 Regional Head Election in Tolikara Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, West Papua, Indonesia, holds a unique story of how members of the Tolikara Police Resort fought for the success of the five-yearly democratic party in Papua.

The 2024 Regional Head Election in Tolikara Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, West Papua, Indonesia, witnessed a remarkable display of dedication from members of the Tolikara Police Resort. In a testament to their commitment to democratic principles in West Papua, these officers undertook a challenging journey to ensure the successful implementation of the election.

Facing arduous conditions, members of the Tolikara Police embarked on a four-day, three-night trek through the wilderness and along riverbanks. This arduous journey was undertaken to safeguard the results of the Regional Head Election and transport them back to Karubaga, the capital of Tolikara Regency.

“Members of the Tolikara Police Resort were tasked with guarding the election results,” stated Agus Hariadi, Head of the Papua Pegunungan Police Operations Public Relations Task Force. “They were responsible for transporting Form C1, which contains the results of the Wina District Plenary, from Wina District to Gundagi District and ultimately to Karubaga, the capital of Tolikara Regency.”

This arduous journey involved navigating through dense jungle terrain, crossing fifteen rivers, and traversing twenty steep hills. Furthermore, the officers had to utilize an emergency bridge during their trek. Despite these challenges, two dedicated Polri members remained steadfast in their mission to safeguard the people’s voices.

Agus Hariadi further explained that during this demanding journey, Briptu Yakop and his team made brief stops in four remote villages: Yogome, Malela, Babu, and Vinai. These stops provided much-needed rest for the exhausted officers.

“For these two officers,” Agus emphasized, “this journey was not merely about transporting ballot boxes; it was about upholding the trust of the people and ensuring that their votes were accurately counted.”

The unwavering dedication of these officers ultimately paid off. The election logistics, containing the precious votes that would determine the next regional head for the ensuing five years, were successfully delivered to their destination.

“They have tirelessly fulfilled their duties,” Agus stated, “ensuring that the people’s right to choose their regional leader for the next five years was upheld.”

Commissioner Irianto John, Chief of the Tolikara Police, expressed his profound appreciation for the efforts of Briptu Yakob Festus Mnubepiom and Bripda Novan Alan Pulanda. Their unwavering commitment to the success of the 2024 Regional Head Election in the Tolikara region is truly commendable.

“This arduous four-day, three-night journey exemplifies the dedication of our personnel and underscores the unwavering commitment of the Indonesian Police, particularly the Tolikara Police, to ensuring the smooth and successful implementation of the 2024 democratic process,” stated Agus.

The dedication and unwavering support of the Tolikara Police personnel played a crucial role in ensuring a safe and democratic Regional Head Election in the Tolikara region.
