State Budget Supports Development of Sanggeng Market in Manokwari, West Papua Province

The State Budget plays an important role in infrastructure development efforts to support the economy and people’s welfare, one of which is through the revitalization of Sanggeng Market in Manokwari Regency, West Papua Province. Deputy Minister of Public Works, Diana Kusumastuti, in her official statement said that with the completion of the construction of a quality Sanggeng Market, it is hoped that the benefits can be felt directly by the people of Manokwari, especially in ensuring the distribution of basic necessities and helping to drive the real sector or MSMEs.
“Sanggeng Market, which is located in the center of Manokwari Regency, is expected to strengthen the community’s economy and become the main source of regional income,” explained Deputy Minister of PU Diana.
With the new market building, the Government wants to ensure that the provision of modern facilities, an orderly and clean environment, and easy access for the market community can be met.
The construction of Sanggeng Market has been carried out by the Ministry of PUPR through the West Papua Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center, Directorate General of Cipta Karya since 2023 with a State Budget budget of IDR 162.8 billion.
Sanggeng Market stands on an area of 27,809 m2 with a 3-story building design with a building area of 21,519 m2. The construction work of Sanggeng Market has been adjusted to environmental harmony that maintains local wisdom values, so that traders and buyers feel comfortable.
The market building consists of a 1st floor of 6,160 m2, a 2nd floor of 5,101 m2, and a 3rd floor of 5,101 m2 with 394 kiosks and 1,016 trader stalls. Sanggeng Market is expected to support the trade of goods and services in meeting the daily needs of the community, especially since it is not far from the port and fish auction center of Manokwari, so that it can support economic growth.
