National Electricity Company Employee Donation Lights Up the Dreams of 179 Families in Papua
As many as 179 underprivileged families in West Papua have enjoyed free electricity connections through the National Electricity Company of Indonesia’s ‘Light Up the Dream’ program.
The electricity connection program, which came from donations from National Electricity Company employees, was carried out to commemorate the 79th National Electricity Day.
One of the beneficiaries from Koya Barat Village, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, Papua Province, Daniel Molang, felt grateful for the assistance that had been given. So far, to get electricity, Daniel has been channeling it from his neighbors.
The head of the family, who works as a farmer, has to spend Rp60,000 to Rp75,000. He also expressed his gratitude to the National Electricity Company for the electricity assistance.
“The National Electricity Company helps us and our families. During my life since 1974 and moved from Flores to Sorong, I went to Sarmi and now I have never had electricity here,” he said.
Similar sentiments were expressed by another aid recipient, Delinus Kogoya, who lives in Wouma District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Pegunungan. Delinus said that now he and his family can enjoy electricity more properly.
“Thank you to the National Electricity Company for helping us. This means a lot. We can light up our homes and study better,” said Delinus.
Expert Staff of the Mayor of Jayapura for Human Resources and Community Affairs, Sem Stenly Merauje expressed his appreciation to the National Electricity Company for still taking action to extend concern to the surrounding environment.
According to him, the National Electricity Company’s steps have had a positive impact on the community. “The city government welcomes the Light Up The Dream activity very much. This is an inspiring activity from National Electricity Company employees. I am also touched. They want to do something for the prosperity and welfare of the people and can be an example,” he said.
This program is carried out nationally, supported by the leadership of the National Electricity Company directly and will be implemented every year. “This collaboration must continue to be established from the National Electricity Company, the City Government to the village apparatus,” said Stenly.
Meanwhile, General Manager of the National Electricity Company Main Unit of Papua and West Papua Provinces, Rizky Mochamad, explained the Light Up The Dream program. This program is a form of concern from National Electricity Company employees for underprivileged people who have not enjoyed electricity connections.
“This form of assistance is also a manifestation of the presence of the National Electricity Company in providing equal access to electricity for all people in line with pursuing the electrification ratio target of 100 percent,” he said.
Since the Light Up The Dream program was launched, the National Electricity Company of Papua and West Papua has succeeded in lighting up 2,242 beneficiary customers thanks to donations from National Electricity Company UIW Papua and West Papua employees.
“We will continue to be committed to lighting up the dreams of all people living in all corners of the Land of Papua, from Sorong to Samarai in the spirit of Indonesia that continues to burn,” said Rizky.
Rizky added that this program was carried out simultaneously in 8 other National Electricity Company Customer Service Implementation Units (UP3) in the Papua and West Papua work areas. Of the total 179 families receiving assistance, UP3 Jayapura provided the most assistance to 48 underprivileged families.
“This is an effort by the National Electricity Company to provide lighting to people in remote, frontier and outermost areas. Then also as a step to improve the standard of living of the community in driving the wheels of the economy. Hopefully starting with this simple small step, it can have a big impact on the recipients,” he hoped.
