Papuan Separatists Burn Down the Homeyo Elementary School in Central Papua Province
Papuan separatists reportedly burned down the Inpres Pogapa Elementary School building in Homeyo District, Intan Jaya, Central Papua Province, West Papua, Indonesia. Head of the Cartenz 2024 Peace Ops Public Relations Task Force, Bayu Suseno, said that the arson action was carried out on Wednesday (1/5) today, at around 08.00 WIT.
“The burning of the Inpres Pogapa State Elementary School building was carried out by the Papuan separatist group Keni Tipagau from Kodap VIII Kemabu, led by Undius Kogoya and Aibon Kogoya,” he said in a written statement.
During the arson action, Bayu said that officers in the field also heard a number of long-barreled firearms fired from the direction of the Papuan Separatists.
Nevertheless, Bayu confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the attack carried out by the Papuan separatist group.
“The location where the Elementary School Pogapa building was burned is not far from the Homeyo Police Headquarters. Only approximately 50 meters away,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that currently members of Ops Damai Cartenz 2024 had also been deployed to comb the area around the location and chase down the suspected perpetrators.
“We hope for support from the community to participate in maintaining security and social order in the Homeyo area from threats from Papuan separatists,” he concluded.
Previously, one civilian was reported to have died as a result of the attack carried out by the KKB on the Homeyo Police in Intan Jaya, Central Papua.
Bayu said the attack was carried out by the Papuan separatists led by Keni Tipagau from Kodap VIII Kemabu, on Tuesday (30/4), at around 07.40 WIT.
He explained that the incident started when Papuan separatists members fired a number of shots at the house of Aipda Tri Setyo and Aipda Bartholomeus who were at the Homeyo Police Station.
“As a result of the Papuan separatists attack, one man was killed, named Aleksander Parapak, 20 years old,” he said in a written statement.
