An earthquake just shook Indonesia’s Papua Mountain Province with a magnitude of 5.1 on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency recorded that the epicenter of the earthquake was at coordinates 3.71 south latitude and 138.78 east longitude.

The location is about 32 kilometers southwest of Kobagma.

The earthquake shock occurred at a depth of 127 kilometers below sea level.

BMKG emphasized that this earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.

Even though this earthquake is classified as moderate strength, to date there have been no reports of significant damage or impact.

People in nearby areas are advised to remain calm but remain alert to the potential for aftershocks.
