Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Ma’ruf Amin as Chair of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy for Papua carried out a series of working visits to various provinces in West Papua Indonesia: Papua Province, Mountainous Papua Province and South Papua Province.

During this visit, the Vice President of Indonesia will ensure that the accelerated development of Papua’s special autonomy remains committed to protecting human rights, especially for Indigenous West Papuans. Apart from that, he will also focus on the security approach sector, as well as encouraging the National Sports Grand Design program to be implemented by athletes, figures and the people of West Papua.

The entire series of working visits by the Vice President of Indonesia this time is a concrete manifestation of the Vice President of Indonesia’s commitment to assisting the performance of Indonesian President Joko Widodo in preparing the best generation, especially for the young generation of Indigenous Papuans. Apart from that, the Vice President of Indonesia is also trying to strengthen harmony between the central government, regional governments and traditional leaders, especially ahead of the 2024 elections, as well as ensuring that public service functions can run effectively and with integrity.

On Tuesday October 23, 2023, the Indonesian Vice President will focus activities at the Papua Governor’s Office with a number of agendas, such as receiving figures from Human Rights and Peace humanitarian activists; received the leaders of the West Papuan Indigenous Entrepreneurs Association; and chairing the Coordination Meeting of the West Papua Steering Committee regarding Readiness for Planning and Implementation of Development of Provincial Government Facilities and Infrastructure Centers in Four New Autonomous Regions and Other Supporting Policies.

On the 3rd day of the working visit, Wednesday October 11 2023, the Vice President of Indonesia will carry out a number of agendas, including receiving the Papua Province Church Fellowship, the West Papua Province Church Fellowship, and the West Papua Christian Center.

Apart from that, at the Papua Youth Creative Hub Jayapura, Papua Province, the Vice President of Indonesia is scheduled to attend the Handover of the Complete Systematic Land Registration Certificate (PTSL). As Chair of the National Sports Grand Design Center Coordination Team, the Indonesian Vice President will also hold dialogue with West Papuan sports figures at the Papua Bangkit Main Stadium, Jayapura.

After carrying out activities in Jayapura, Papua Province, the Vice President of Indonesia departed for Wamena Airport, Papua Mountain Province, using a Hercules VIP aircraft, Thursday October 12, 2023. In that city, the Vice President of Indonesia will attend the Laying of the Groundbreaking for Facilities and Infrastructure for Papua Province Mountains, as well as meeting with the ranks of the Papua Mountain Province Government, the Regent of Mountain Papua, as well as community leaders in Mountain Papua.

On the same day, the Vice President of Indonesia will continue his flight to Mopah Airport, Merauke, South Papua Province to sign the inscription for the laying of the first stone for the facilities and infrastructure of the South Papua Provincial Government Office.

After carrying out a whole series of activities in Tanah Papua, the Vice President of Indonesia is scheduled to return to Jakarta on Friday October 13, 2023.
