Eastern Indonesia is indeed a champion in matters of nature and culture. All this beauty belongs to the land of Papua, the second largest island in the world. Papua has the largest national park in Southeast Asia. The park is Lorentz National Park, one of West Papua’s mainstay tourist destinations.

Apart from Lorentz National Park, West Papua has many tourist locations that are sought after by tourists.

1. Lake Sentani

This is it, the largest lake in Papua which has a fantastic panorama and is the pride of the local community! Especially if it’s not Lake Sentani which is located in Jayapura Regency.

This lake with an area of 9,360 hectares is the source of water from 14 large and small rivers. Not only that, this lake is also a champion in terms of fish production, which can reach 1,823 tons/year. With a unique lake shape like an amoeba, there are 22 small islands that decorate the beauty of the lake. 2. Base-G Beach

There is a beach that is as beautiful as a painting, you know, it’s called Base-G Beach, which is located in Jayapura City. The origin of this beach’s name comes from the Allied troops in World War II who used this beach as a military base. Another name for this beach is Tanjung Ria Beach.

3. Wasur National Park

A trip to Papua won’t be complete if you don’t meet unique fauna such as cassowaries. The rich flora and fauna of Papua can be found in Wasur National Park which is located in Merauke Regency. With a land area of 413,810 hectares, this park has the largest savanna forest in Indonesia, even in Asia. Well, most of the fauna in this park are migratory fauna and live in six different ecosystems. If you visit here, it feels like you’re on an adventure!

4. Lorentz National Park

No less spectacular, Lorentz National Park in Papua also has the greatest splendor in Southeast Asia and is recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO. It is so vast, 2,505,600 hectares of this park land occupies 10 districts in Papua. Not surprisingly, the entrance to this national park is in three different cities, namely Timika, Wamena and Enarotali.

Not only that, Lorentz National Park is also the largest conservation area with the most complete ecosystem in Asia Pacific. Typical fauna is the long-tailed bird of paradise, snow quail and dingiso tree kangaroo.

5. Baliem Valley

It is common knowledge that the Jayawijaya mountains are the highest mountains in Indonesia. If you stop by these mountains, you must also stop by the Baliem Valley, which is 27 km from Wamena City, Papua. In the valley, which covers an area of 1,600 km2, there are 3 main tribes that live, namely the Dani, Yali and Lani tribes.

Apart from the cool air and beautiful panorama that freshens the eyes, the attraction of this destination is the traditional houses and the strong culture among the original tribal people. In fact, there is a famous cultural festival here, namely the Baliem Valley Festival.

6. Wafsarak Waterfall

The panorama of this 10 meter high waterfall is like a place to relieve fatigue in the middle of a beautiful forest.
