Expansion of Provinces in West Papua Makes Election Mitigation Easier
The Indonesian General Election Supervisory Agency has revealed the benefits of the expansion of four new provinces in Papua. This expansion is considered to be able to make it easier for the General Election Supervisory Agency to mitigate the prevention of disturbances in the 2024 Election stages in Indonesia.
“One of the benefits of expanding these new regions is that the benefits will be very specific. It will actually make it easier for the General Election Supervisory Agency in the mitigation process,” said General Election Supervisory Agency Commissioner Lolly Suhenty.
Lolly said that the four new provinces of Papua in 2022 are, South Papua, Central Papua, and Mountain Papua. Then, Southwest Papua which was inaugurated in December 2022.
On this basis, Lolly emphasized that the General Election Supervisory Agency is accelerating preparations for supervision of four new autonomous regions in West Papua. The General Election Supervisory Body, Lolly admitted, has ranks in the four new autonomous regions of Papua.
“Currently, our new autonomous region already has a line of election supervisors. Currently, the General Election Supervisory Agency is concentrating on ensuring that in terms of capacity, quality of work, they are able to accelerate,” said Lolly.
Then, Lolly revealed, the General Election Supervisory Agency monitored its own specifications and characteristics in terms of election preparations. For example, one of them is related to infrastructure.
“But yes, we must be able to fulfill the requirements, in the context of the vulnerability in 2024 in this new region. Being one of the focuses of attention of the General Election Supervisory Agency,” said Lolly.
It is known that the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin, said that elections in the four new autonomous regions of Papua have been prepared. All this, in order to be able to take part in the presidential and legislative elections.
“Yes, I think in Papua all the regulations have been made as a new autonomous region. Everything has been prepared,” said Ma’ruf Amin on the sidelines of a working visit to Banjar Baru, South Kalimantan, some time ago.
