Indonesia President Ordered Thorough Investigation

Jayapura – President of Indonesia Joko Widodo ordered Chief of Police and TNI Commander to exercise thorough investigation on murder case in Mimika, Papua. Both victims and perpetrator allegedly involved in illegal arms transaction. The arms was supposed to be supplied to separatist group in Papua.

According to Widodo, TNI Commander General Andhika Perkasa has been ordered to assist investigation by police. “Assist to ensure thorough investigation and reveal all aspect,” he said in Jayapura, Thursday (31/8/2022).

Jokowi gave order since 6 of 10 perpetrators are soldier. Another four are civilian. All perpetrators are in custody. Civilian remand in Papua Regional Police office, soldiers are arrested in Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih Headquater.

They were involved in killing 4 civilians in Iwaka District, Mimika on August 22. Kodam XVII and Papua Regional Police has made joint and connected investigation team.

Director of Criminal Investigation in Papua Regional Police Chief Commissioner Faisal Ramadhan said, 3 of 4 victims been identified. They are Arnold Lokbere, Irian Nirigi, dan Leman Nirigi. Another one yet to identified.

Leman Nirigi identified as arms suppliers to separatist group in Nduga County, Papua. Nirigi groups offered 250 million rupiah (US$ 20.000) to buy a AK42 riffle and a FN pistol. The perpetrators pretended to have the arms and bullets.

After some communication, they agreed to met in Iwaka. There, perpetrators killed Nirigi group. victim body was dismembered and drown in several river. Their car was burned as well. While the money been divided and spent by perpetrators.

Investigation not only to unveil homicide case. Thorough investigation are carried to crack arms supplier to separatist group in Papua.

Indonesian Commission for Human Right highlight the arms supply group to separatist in Papua. The illegal transaction contribute to vicious cycle of violence in Papua.
